Today, on recommendation from my good friend Louis, I checked out Ruben's Empanadas in SoHo.  AWESOME.  I also got to check out all of the great shops and stores along the way as well as get a feel for some of the crowdedness of the city, the differences in 'vibe' from one block to the next.  Sometimes the differences were so abrupt – one second, you are in the midst of thousands of people, swimming, anonymous and wide-eyed.  The next, you are in a quiet, tree-lined street with brick building covered in graffiti, equally as wide-eyed.

I could fall in love with this city.  My self could simply be the medium with the environment as my canvas.

The view here in Brooklyn of the city is awesome.  It was like 80 degrees out and I fell asleep in loose clothes and sweat to people chattering, the East River lapping at the shore and the sun being fussy with the clouds.

Williamsburg is fun.  Lots of hot people to oggle.  Art.  Fashion.  Most folks here are on their own trip, yet pretty accepting of the diversity of folks here.  The included picture is off of a little pseudo-beach at the end of 8th St.  There were barbeques going and around 250-some people all just hanging out doing exactly what I was doing.

Off for more adventures…

Hi Network,
I've had a krazzzy summer and now find myself living out of a backpack, staying with friends in Boston and getting ready to attend the NAMAC Conference (come say hello!).  I'm also in the process of applying to a job in Australia while reconfiguring my We Operate Best Together Project – I'm thinking of launching it right here while I'm in Boston – what do you think?

Ain't been too active on my Facebook account, blog or Twitter lately.  Been in the process of moving my stuff (big thanks to my dad and sisters!) between the Bay Area and San Diego in preparation for my project.

Apologies if I have not been the best at responding to emails/phone calls.

Some cool things are in the works:

• A Digital Nomad Toolkit I'm creating with Edward Harran – ping either of us if you are interested in a copy
• This job in Australia (which I hope works out – wish me luck!)
• The #4change SXSW Panel Voting! (big thanks to Amy Sample Ward for galvanizing the #4change team around it)
• and of course, We Operate Best Together – this project is slowly evolving/growing and I think I'm in the right place…

Also pretty excited to check out a collaborative/creative tech space in Boston tomorrow night.

Pes – Western Spaghetti This is a very creative video I found online, all stop motion. It was done by the folks over at PES. Probably one of the most creative things I’ve seen created with stop-motion.

Anyone seen any other cool stop-motion stuff?

This was actually in an email that I got from LinkedIn after getting a connection request fulfilled from a colleague:

Of course I think this song is endearingly cool. But then as you watch it, it’s TOTALLY creative in it’s use of video/audio – each sound you hear in the song is shown, as it’s played, onscreen. The concept is a ‘videosong’ which basically has two rules:

1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).

A few months ago, I saw a call for entry for a print publication called the Squealer.  The Squealer is a semi annual media arts journal put out by Squeaky Wheel, a grassroots, artist-run non-profit media arts center in Buffalo, New York.   The issue’s theme was Codes & Community.  As these are two topics I regularly think about, I thought I’d take the opportunity to submit one of my works, numberzzz (pictured above).

This morning, the latest issue of the Squealer came into my organization’s office and voila!  My piece got in!  It was nestled there amongst many other articles covering topics like social networks and corporate control, social media and global arts communities, and the importance of creating physical, tangible art to give away.

I may not have been the first to notice this, but the clouds you can generate with del.icio.us for use in websites and blogs can bring up an interesting perceived ‘profile’ about the user based on their tags.

For instance in my tag cloud below, one might think that i have more interest in ‘webdev’ than i do ‘human-potential’. Shoot. Guess del.icio.us could also be used as ’self-checking’ tool to see where i need to balance out my interests and knowledge.

so i think this is my last week working for StandUp and I’m a little sad on leaving. Today at the center i said, ‘What the fuck? Let’s do it” and so on a whim, i took all of our kids that were there to go and see Starwars Episode III. Lemme tell ya, Lucas DELIVERS for the final installment of the sextet. I was stoked. I stil think the guy who plays Anakin Skywalker (who later becomes Darth Vader for those not in the know) sucks, but whatever. The best part of the afternoon was not long enough. After the movie i got to meander back to the van that they are all staying/travelling in together (4 of them) and have a good long talk with one of them (he has had multiple suicide attempts, drug o.d.s and a pet dog dying in the past few weeks). He seemed pretty stable in my talking to him and was still trying to justify smoking weed. I just hope that attitude doesn’t carry back into the harder drugs he was using. He has a good friend who really looks out for him and i truly hope that he doesn’t burn this bridge. He almost lost his parents (they got tired, sad, and sick of hearing him not do well, almost changed their number) due to his own lack of getting his life on track. I really want him – as with the rest of my kids – to do well, be healthy and achieve whatever it is that they are meant to do, in their highest being-in-the-world. With some, the potential shines more strongly than others, but that’s not to say that their isn’t any with those that don’t shine as brightly, they’ll just have to work harder at it…. I told them this week that i am leaving and i must admit that they are probably gonna be what i miss most about this job, hands down. None of them are really bad or evil, just damaged. I’m gonna really miss smackin them kids around. I want them to succeed.
