Short track I worked on this week.  Just a demo – raw and unfinished.   I was inspired by a sweet dj mix my friend Alex Brandmeyer made (he had excellent track selection).  Bug him for it.

Post image for DJ Mix: Kira mix, February 2009

Mix I made while waiting. I was anxious to get the party started – I mean, c’mon, Loco Dice’s mix of Hard South Americans AND the Claude von Stroke mix of Samim’s Heater?  The toms of Danilo Vigorito’s Heka Dark Side took it to a darker place while Slutbox’s Filthy Fibber into Stimming’s The Anger [...]

On Monday, I convened a dinner meeting with some cool local folks in the Bay Area had our first meeting as a collective to come up with a strategy and plan for promoting and supporting local electronic music communities in the East Bay Area (Oakland, Berkeley, Downtown, etc.).
As we’re already pretty organized;) we grafted a [...]

Post image for 5 Steps to Social Media Engagement for Electronic Musicians

During my work with NAMAC, I created a ‘Social Media Engagement Cycle’ template in order to communicate with my supervisors just how we might dive in to using blogs, RSS, Facebook and Twitter to engage with our members.  Inspired by Beth Kanter’s post ‘How Much time Does it Take to Do Social Media‘ I thought [...]

This is a new dj mix I recently completed on behalf of an electronic music collective I’m forming with my buddies Aaron and Monk.  We aim to support and promote local, East Bay Area (Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, etc.) electronic music communities by:

producing electronic music events
marketing and promoting local electronic music artists
connecting these audiences and artists [...]

Today is a sad day for me.  Telefon Tel Aviv’s Charlie Cooper has passed away.  Telefon Tel Aviv created some of the most beautiful music the world has ever known.  I’ve played their tracks out at parties, cafés and art openings too many times to count.
Their music was also with me during the quietest moments [...]

Post image for DJing is Like Community Service or How to Be A Multi-genre DJ

It’s a great responsibility to be in charge of a sonic space with the goal of rocking people’s bodies/minds/hearts. DJing is like community service – a lot of your soul goes in to it.I don’t think it’s even about the awesomeness (or non-awesomeness) of the tracks, but more on the ‘vibe’ of the room/crowd [...]

Post image for How to Start Making Electronic Music

I love electronic music. I love making it, listening to it, promoting it and of course, helping other people create it. While I didn’t write these myself, I thought I’d share some helpful PDF manuals and guides I’ve compiled to get you started.
In writing this, I’m also assuming that readers have some kind of multi-track [...]
