Homecoming
Upon my arrival back from the VISTA Pre Service Orientation and Training, this will be the building that I go to work in. It’s called the 9th Street Independent Film Center. It’s home to 8 different media arts organizations doing really cutting edge work while providing support for the independent film community in the Bay Area. I was excited to get introduced to all the AWESOME orgs here - some having quite experimental and underground film/video as projects and community projects. NAMAC as well as the work ahead looks to be really exciting, challenging and rewarding.
Today, I went in to meet the staff, discuss ‘housekeeping stuff’ (keys, passcodes, work hours, local places to grab lunch, my desk, business cards, the local landscape…) AND order a new iMac computer for my desk:) I even get a Powerbook to take around with me for work related stuff which is nice. I won’t have to use my own laptop like I did last year for my job, so I’ll definitely be able to cut down on the wear and tear.
This morning I went to watch the sunrise over the City from Moraga park. It’s quite meditative up there.
Birds chirp quietly
awaiting the sun
or the next epiphany
that only you may know
for a fleeting second
‘gainst the backdrop of the city
the urban canvas
that I now call home
